I come by late at night
I see your light’s still burning
I know it’s not on for me
We had our time to shine
Back when our love was blind
But now, it’s so plain to see
that it’s…
Chorus:
Gone just like a friend
Gone, honey it’s the end
Gone, ooh bye bye
Gone, and I don’t know why
(and I don’t lie)
I thought that I could be
With you and still be free
Out in the open sky
I took what I could find
It never crossed my mind
That you might want to fly
now it’s…
Chorus
I come by late at night
I see your light’s still burning
I know it’s not on for me
I’ll wait until the day
Then, I’ll be on my way
But, my heart it won’t be free
‘cause it’s
Chorus

Sometimes I fly, I search high and low
Sometimes I wait for you, but still you never show
And when I dream, it’s always you
I want to find you there, oh but I never do
Chorus:
What can I do, where should I stay
Am I the only one alone on this highway
I walk for miles, all night and day
Still no one picks me up
Alone on this highway
On this highway
I see a house along the road
Want it to be the place to ease my troubled load
But, like a soul whose heart has sinned
She lays empty now, broken shutters in the wind
Chorus
I used to have the greatest hope
I always to carried it dangling from a rope
But, now it seems somebody lied
When they said to me, “Baby, it’s always there inside.”
Chorus

Chorus:
A thousand miles away, standing next to me
I don’t want to lose the thread I see
Come on baby, tell me what you want us to be
‘Cause I’m stumbling through the dark, straight into the night
I fall into your arms, it feels so right
Come on baby, tell me what you want us to be
Oh
You know I’m with you, and I never want to see you cry
Say you feel it, so deep it could never lie
When you tell me, anybody couldn’t change my ways
But now I’m so sure, long gone are those ramblin’ days
Chorus
I won’t leave you, I don’t ever want to break your heart
So together, nothing ever gonna tear it apart
When I see you coming down with that blue dress on
And you know now, every other girl is so long gone
Chorus

Don’t know just how I got here, so close to the edge
Always walking a thin line, standing on a ledge
For so long I can’t recall, I’ve been running blind
Searching through the darkness for what I can never find
Chorus:
Just a thread
Just a thread
Hanging on by just a thread
Just a thread
Just a thread
I’m hanging on by just a thread
When you left me on the road for a better day
I had to look inside myself for another way
Ooh, you don’t know how hard I tried to forget your name
But you kept coming back again in my memory just the same
Chorus
But it’s different this time, ain’t nobody’s fault
The same things over again, not the same result
When I see you now and then living your new lie
I go back in time again and I know I’m going to fly
Chorus

Well I can tell you a bunch of lies and you’ll love me
I look at you like you’re nothing and you can’t stay away
I tell the truth just one single time and I’m history
Chorus:
Oh, oh, well I will tell you one time
And I won’t tell you no more
You might think you know my mind
But, you can never be sure
‘Cause I can be someone else anytime and I’m normal
I blend into the background just like nothing at all
I be myself just one single time and I’m outcast
Chorus
So, I’ll just give you anything and you’ll take it
Before long, you won’t know any other way
I’ll be the bad guy you always want, but I’ll fake it
It won’t mean anything, but I’ll just…
Chorus

I see the road, but I don’t feel much like walking
I know the words, but I don’t feel much like talking
I’ll just sit here in my chair and keep rockin’
Chorus:
I’ll keep rockin’ ‘till I’m wearing out the floor
I’ll keep rockin’ ‘till I can’t rock anymore
Anymore
I saw you today
I was caught in a blank stare
You’re going away, while I’m going nowhere
I’ll just sit here in my chair
I don’t care
Chorus
I know my place, and I know it ain’t so high
You chase the stars, while I watch the sky
I’ll just sit here on my porch…
And pass you by
Chorus

How do you know what’s inside of me
I’m looking right into your eyes, but they don’t see
The winding stairs to the secret rooms
Chorus:
I’m waiting in one of them
Waiting in one of them
Waiting in one of them, waiting for you
You get your keys and go out for a drive
When you’re out on the streets, you’re feeling alive
A million stars, so many cars
Chorus
Some guys say, “You’ve gotta take what you want.”
And maybe that’s true
And maybe you don’t know it yet
Maybe I want you
I’m out here alone on this highway tonight
If you say just the right words, I just might
Now, I’ve gotta know what you’re gonna do
I’ve been all over this city, and I can’t find you
But, you’re in my head
I feel you in bed
I’m with you in one of them
With you in one of them
I’ll be with you in one of them
I’m waiting for you
Chorus

She has a nice shape and the right curves
When she sings to me, well it calms my nerves
I pick her up and she sits on my lap
And when she holds onto my I don’t even need the strap
She never frets, but she knows that I’m a player
When I caress her neck, she knows I care
Then I touch that G-string and turn her on real loud
She makes a sound that just always drives me wild
Chorus:
And when I go to bed at night and you’re away too far
Don’t be jealous baby I’ll be sleeping with your guitar
Sleeping with your guitar
Sleeping with your guitar
She’s not too sharp, but oh I like her tone
And when she’s with me, I never feel alone
She always sings all my favorite songs
As I hammeron her all night long
Chorus
Yeah, I’ve made some marks on her
But they’ve only made her better
Some guys would try to steal her if they ever met her
She’s not too heavy and she’s not too light
She likes keeps me baby, up all night
When I go out, she helps me paint the town
And if she gets too loud, I just turn her down
We never argue and we never fight
With her bridge well she doesn’t ever bite
Chorus

Walking on the beach
She’s so out of reach, it’s December
Well, it might be cold
But I’m not too old to remember
Chorus:
It all comes down to me
It all comes down eventually
It all comes down to me
You know it isn’t right
She comes when the night is falling
It’s never too late
Whenever your fate is calling
Chorus
In all of our lives
There’s a moment in time, defining
When everything flows
The planets we chose aligning
Chorus

I can take you far away from here
I can take you so far you cannot hear
All the screams that never made it past your wall
Lying there, still his footsteps in the hall
I can take you to the other side
I can take you in my car we’ll ride
And we’ll go faster than your memories ever could
And you’ll forget all of the bad things now for good
I can take you if you let me girl
I can take you to another world
I can take you, we can make it real
I can take you so far you cannot feel
All the words that always burned into your soul
We can find all of the parts of you they stole
I can take you if you let me girl
I can take you so far from this world and
In your arms, we can soar across the sky
In the end oh, I know we’ll never die
I can take you to the other side
I can take you, in my car we’ll ride

It’s always been you
And you know it, too
Now there’s two sides and one I never knew
But there’s something wrong
When you turn it on
‘Cause I’m more than gone and
You already won and…
Chorus:
I keep running, I keep running
Can’t turn it off
I keep running, I keep running
I can’t turn it off
I’ll just play the field
Try to keep it real, but
While I’m running free
I know they’re not for me and
I’m just wasting down
Time I should be ‘round
And you know it Jack that
That time ain’t coming back and…
Chorus
If you won’t let me stay
You know I can’t give away even
A random thought of you, ‘cause
I don’t know what else to do and
I can’t stop this ramblin’ on
With all of my direction gone
It’s hitching out on 22
Hoping to get a ride with you and…
Chorus
Repeat Chorus and fade

The best part of my day is when everyone goes away
And I’m alone with my thoughts
And they return to you
Chorus:
They return to you
They return to you
When I’m alone with my thoughts
(I hold you in my heart)
They always return to you
I held your hand so warm in mine
I know you can’t come back
Until the end of time
So I’ll…
Chorus
So close my eyes and I’ll see you
You’ll be in my arms again and it’ll all be true
‘Cause I’ll…
Chorus

Most of the songs on this CD were
written in a bar in Steubenville, Ohio,
after closing time. They were heavily
influenced by whatever I was drinking
that night. If you hear a song and think
that maybe it was written about you, it
probably was.
"Gone." is about how it feels when
you try to hold on to something that
is no longer there... because it's Gone,
of course.
"One Time" shows that women don't
always know us as well as they think.
We just let them think they do.
O.K. I lied. I said I'd only tell you
"One Time," and I told you over
and over. Probably because you
don't listen very well.
"Waiting For You" There's a magic
in the night sometimes. Excitement
in the feeling that anything can
happen.
This song had been
formulating in my mind for a few weeks,
the lyrics at least. Then one night.
I channeled it from some
other world and it was there completely.
That's the creative process explained.
"This song is
dedicated to Louella Benson,
whose photo graces the cover of
this CD. She was always very jealous
of that guitar. She loaned it to me
and immediately regretted it.
Sometimes, you're just a
hitch-hiker waiting for the next ride, not
knowing where it will take you.
But, you "Keep Running."
She was only 5 years old,
and going through hell.
"I Can Take You,"
is a prayer to go back
in time to rescue her.
It can be a fine line between
living well and barely scraping by.
And sometimes, we find that
even our strongest relationships
are tenuous at best,
hanging on by "Just A Thread."
It might be a May/September
relationship, but it's not
December yet.
And sooner
or later, we all have to make
important decisions. How we
choose shows our character.
Going back and forth on a "Rocking Chair,"
can take you far, even as you seem to
stay right where you are.
This is my real life, every time I find the
One girl I want to be with
forever... at that time.
"Return To You" is for Christine
and Louella.
Sometimes you don't realize what you have...
until it's Gone
Alone On This Highway Remembering the first time that I ran away from home
Most people who know me, or think they know me, think that I'm simple or normal or down to earth. But the truth is...I'm a complicated guy. From the outside, my life might look like a quiet, peaceful house in a gated community. But in reality, I'm haunted with demons hidden deep inside...and apparitions passing through my walls. And in one of those dark rooms, I'm there...
Waiting For You
I had a girlfriend once who loaned me her guitar. That was a big mistake because... It didn't take long before I fell in love with it. She would call me up thinking I had been untrue and I would tell her that no, I'm just Sleeping With Your Guitar. I wasn't lying... but when I took that guitar out on the road with me... well, she never saw me or that guitar ever again.
Sometimes, everything in your life moves so fast that you can't process it all. And sometimes, the best thing you can do about it... is just Keep Running.
Where I'm from in the Midwest, in the winter time, a lot of people... especially old people, go south to Florida. I guess they can't take the cold anymore. Kind of like birds that fly south, then come back in the Spring. Every once in a while, those old birds will lose their sense of direction and end up... I don't know... in New Jersey or something... on the Jersey shore in the middle of winter. Well, one time, I found myself lost on the east coast. I was in Coney Island in the dead of winter... all the rides were shut down, the shops and restaurants were all boarded up. So, I just wandered around until I found another lost bird. When I first saw her, she was walking towards me on the beach. I was cold December, and she was dressed like a summer day. And when we locked eyes I knew that It All Comes Down To Me
